Okita Souji

Norimune represents the sword made by the first Ichimonji smith. He's also summoned with an awareness of the story of "being Okita Souji's sword". It's fiction, but the cultural impact weighs heavily on him.

In 2205, a force known as the history retrograde army emerged in order to change the past. In response, the Chronos Ministry employs Saniwa sages (player characters), who would summon Touken Danshi (sword spirits granted human forms) in order to fight the enemies throughout different time periods.

Unlike most of the current swords, Ichimonji Norimune was one of the handful of swords who work at the government. During the Keiou Koufu incident, he oversaw the mission as an Inspector and evaluated the participating citadel's sword squad's performances. After a successful mission, he gave his evaluation (they passed, hurrah!) and bid them farewell.

Except no, afterwards, he got assigned to the successful Citadel and will join them in the war as a fellow warrior.

Personality:
Old Spirit
Right off the bat, Norimune is a friendly and jovial self-proclaimed retired old man to most people who met him. Being an old, long living spirit of a treasured sword, he have watched many things from his limited life. This made him both knowledgeable yet only familiar with life among the upperclass nobility. It also made him sociable, familiar with old fashioned slang, and occasionally seeks entertainment to break the monotony. He only knows what he observed around him, regardless if he truly understand what it means for humans.

His limited exposure in life lead to him wishing to see more unusual and unique things. In his own words, "Being warped is the fun part.". As much as he enjoy watching younger souls working hard to improve themselves, he can't help but get intrigued by more interesting and dramatic situations people can get involved in. It's different, it's unique, and unlikely to be boring for him. That's why he's likely to watch from the sideline, not offering any aid unless he feels like it (dead people means one less entertainment) or directly ordered to.

Weapon
But behind his friendly old man act, Norimune is still a weapon and tool for humanity. He will follow any orders he receives from the government or the Saniwa to the letter, despite his own feelings and carefully worded advice (like suggesting against advancing with critically injured members). He may push the boundaries, but he won't outright disobey the humans ordering him around. The idea wouldn't occur to him, and even if it did? He would find it troublesome and go with the flow. At least until he can return to his retirement, or he dies during his service.

Love
The story of "Okita Souji owned a Kiku-Ichimonji" is currently the greatest shadow and impact on his identity, practically overshadowing his identity as a Kiku-Ichimonji sword in popular culture. Norimune was summoned with the knowledge that the story is fictional, but it didn't stop him from pondering the meaning of "love" and what it means for humans and Touken Danshi. He doesn't understand "love", only that humans love Okita Souji strongly enough to make up and share around a fictional story. How it continues to drive humans to act and speak. It's a topic he thinks about often, and occasionally ask people about if it ever comes up for him.

Bonds
Because of who he is and the stories attached to him, Norimune has significant connections to other Touken Danshi, such as the Ichimonji family and the swords truly owned by Okita Souji, Kashuu Kiyomitsu and Yamatonokami Yasusada. As the Ichimonji clan's former boss, Norimune carries a certain fondness for his family, who respected him in return. Even after he causes tension within the family due to his retirement, he still cares for them. Is it love? Norimune can't confidently say, only that he likes them and they use the "
family" label because they're grouped together. He still need to remind them of his retirement, as he holds no interest in taking leadership back for himself.

Unlike the underlying tension in the Ichimonji family, Norimune's relationship with Okita Souji's swords are more personal and distinctively different. Despite his story being fictional, both Kiyomitsu and Yasusada accepted him as a fellow sword of Okita Souji, something he deeply appreciate. In return, he accepts them as one of his "children", to watch over their journey and training to their goals. Norimune's questions about "love" remain unanswered, but he now knows their acceptance makes his own journey a little more comfortable. It won't stop him from trying to dump chores on them, of course.

While he has no particular feelings for the government, Norimune have shown to be friendly and cordial to the Saniwa sage he's reassigned to. He acknowledges and praises their capabilities, and gives them both advice and stories. He didn't need to tell them stories, as it's not necessary to the war efforts. But his willingness to tell unnecessary tales shows he likes them outside of work. He likes his current master, and wishes to see how far they will go, just like the young souls he loves to watch.

Overall, Ichimonji Norimune is an old spirit who grappled with his love pondering, all while trying to enjoy his retirement between orders to fight in a war.

Abilities & Inventory:
Norimune is a Touken Danshi, a sword tsukumogami manifested with a physical human body. As a result, he's stronger than a typical human with more power, speed and stamina in comparison. But he can still get injured and even die like any mortal being. He also has heightened spiritual sense, making it easier for him to sense spirits and auras (for example, fellow spirits and spiritually powerful humans). He won't be able to pinpoint their exact location, but he can note something is odd if he walks close enough to the general area.

His life is tied to his original body, the Kiku-Ichimonji Norimune sword. Any damage to it will reflect on his human body. If it breaks, he will die.

• His sword aka original body, Kiku-Ichimonji Norimune.
• His casual outfit, which includes his fan. His battle attire can be a regain later.

Suitability & Plans:
Norimune's jovial, relaxed and curious nature means he'd be willing to go with the flow in Songerein. As a retired old man, he wishes only to live a quiet life, but he won't deny himself entertainment. Due to his nature as sword, he also wants to take advantage of his temporary freedom to move around. In a world of dreams, there would be no end of entertainment for him to seek out. This will also allow him to meet many different people, forging new types of CR outside of his home. Especially the opportunity to address his nature as a tool vs as an individual person outside of his usual environment. And if it ever comes up, ask them about what "love" means for them.

Dreamotion will be fun to play around with, because giving this silly old man access to them is obviously a good idea (to him and me, other characters may think otherwise).
